✦ Summary

Shu'ayb was sent to the people of Madyan, a trading nation that defrauded scales and corrupted markets. His message combined Tawhid and economic justice. Despite his great eloquence — which earned him the title Orator of the Prophets — his people rejected him and were destroyed by an earthquake and a thunderous blast.

Chapter 1 — The Mission to Madyan

Madyan was a prosperous city at the crossroads of trade routes. Its wealth had made it arrogant, and its corrupt merchants defrauded the scales, gave less than what was due, and disrupted the roads. Shu'ayb, one of their own, received prophethood and called them to Tawhid and commercial integrity. He said: "Give full measure and do not be of those who cause loss. Weigh with an even balance. Do not defraud people of their possessions." This dual mission — faith and fairness — is unique among prophetic accounts and reveals that Islam does not separate the spiritual from the economic.

📖 Quranic verse
