Les Conditions of Validity
6 mandatory conditions for the prayer to be valid
الطَّهَارَة
Taharah — Ritual Purity
Being in a state of ritual purity: having performed wudu (minor ablutions) or ghusl (major ablutions) if needed. The body, clothing and place of prayer must be free of najasa (impurity).

Sitr al-Awrah — Covering the 'Awrah
For men: covering from navel to knees (minimum). For women: covering the entire body except face and hands according to the majority opinion. Obligatory even when alone and out of others' sight.

Waqt — The Prayer Time
Performing the prayer within its prescribed time. Each prayer has a specific time window determined by Allah. Allah says: "Indeed, prayer is obligatory for the believers at set times." (Quran 4:103)

Istiqbal al-Qibla — Facing the Qibla
Facing the Ka'bah in Mecca, except in case of incapacity (severe illness, immediate danger) or during voluntary prayer while travelling on a vehicle. Allah says: "Turn your face toward the Sacred Mosque." (Quran 2:144)

An-Niyyah — The Intention
Forming in the heart the intention to perform a specific prayer (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr...) sincerely for Allah alone. It does not need to be spoken aloud — the place of niyyah is the heart.

Takbirat al-Ihram — The Opening
Saying 'Allahu Akbar' while raising the hands to open the prayer. This is the only obligatory dhikr spoken aloud in prayer — without it the prayer is invalid. No other formula replaces it.
