Chapter 1 — Sodom and Its Abominations

Lut left his uncle Ibrahim to settle in the region of the Jordan, among the inhabitants of Sodom and its neighboring towns. He discovered with horror that these people practiced a perversion unprecedented in human history: sodomy. The Quran states explicitly: "You commit such immorality as no one in the world has committed before you." The inhabitants of Sodom also had other vices: theft, robbing travelers, and broken hospitality. Lut preached among them for years. He reminded them of Allah's natural laws and invited them to abandon these practices for the wives their Lord had lawfully permitted. His preaching was rejected with contempt and hostility. They answered him: "Drive Lut out of your city — these are people who wish to be pure." Purity had become, among them, a subject of mockery — a sign of the total inversion of the moral compass.
