✦ Summary

Noah is the third prophet and one of the five "Ulu al-Azm" — the prophets of firm resolve. He preached to his people for nine hundred and fifty years, called for the abandonment of polytheism, and was saved with the believers by the divine ark during the universal Flood that swept the earth.

Chapter 1 — Noah's Mission and His Nine Centuries of Preaching

Nuh received his prophetic mission when his people had strayed deeply into polytheism. Their ancestors had venerated pious men — Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr — and after their deaths, these figures became idols. Nuh undertook the immense task of bringing this people back to Tawhid. For nine hundred and fifty years — a number explicitly mentioned in the Quran — he never ceased his preaching. He called them day and night, in public and in private, with gentleness and with firmness, through persuasion and argument. He showed them the signs of Allah in creation: the sky, the rain, the rivers, the harvests. But his people persisted in their refusal. The notables and the wealthy mocked him and his followers, whom they called poor and simple-minded. Nuh bore their ridicule, insults, and threats with unshakeable patience. He never grew discouraged, knowing that his mission was divine and that success belonged to Allah alone. This prophetic longevity earns Nuh the title "Elder of the Prophets" — Shaykh Al-Anbiya — an honorific that testifies to his extraordinary endurance.

📖 Quranic verse

Innā arsalnā Nūḥan ilā qawmihi an andhir qawmaka min qabli an ya'tiyahum 'adhābun alīm

🇫🇷 Nous avons envoyé Noé vers son peuple : "Avertis ton peuple avant qu'un châtiment douloureux ne leur vienne"
