The son of Dawud, Sulayman inherited the prophetic kingdom and surpassed his father in miraculous powers. Allah subjected the wind, the jinn, and the birds to him, and gave him understanding of the languages of animals. His reign in Jerusalem was the most splendid in the history of the Banu Israil. His exchange with the Queen of Sheba (Bilqis) is one of the most captivating accounts in the Quran.

Chapter 1 — The Kingdom of Creatures

Allah granted Sulayman a unique kingdom: "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that will not belong to anyone after me." Allah subjected to him the violent wind that carried him wherever he wished, the jinn who built palaces and dove for pearls, and gave him understanding of the language of birds and ants. One day, passing by with his army of jinn, men, and birds, an ant said to her companions: "Go into your homes lest Sulayman and his armies crush you!" Sulayman heard this, smiled, and said: "Lord, inspire me to be grateful for the blessing You have granted me." This smile before the ant reveals true wisdom: greatness that marvels at smallness.

﴾ وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاوُودَ ۖ وَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ عُلِّمْنَا مَنطِقَ الطَّيْرِ ﴿

Wa waritha Sulaymānu Dāwūda wa qāla yā ayyuha n-nāsu 'ullimna manṭiqa ṭ-ṭayr
